Step into Fall
Autumn officially began on September 23rd with the autumnal equinox. This means that temperatures drop, plant life slows down and the light decreases. And this is happening while parents and children are adapting to the returning to school. Not always easy!
As summer winds down many people may experience a sense of sadness and gloom. This is referred to the “end of summer blues”. But here are a few tips on how to manage summer blues:
Acknowledge your feelings
Celebrate summer memories
Plan you next vacation, time off, or fun activity
Indulge in self-care, however, you define it - take a nap, eat a chocolate, get some pet time
Dive into a new hobby or passion
Vitamin D or light therapy
Re-evaluate your goals, plan ahead, re-evaluate your schedule
As the seasons change it can be a time of self reflection and gratitude, which has been demonstrated to enhance well-being. This may be a time to step back and think about some of the kind or positive people and actions that you have noticed around you. Is there something that you can also do to spread kindness? It can be contagious.
Other boosters for well-being may include being out in nature to watch the beautiful landscapes and changing colors of leaves and create a sense of “awe”. And doing this with others you care about can also add the benefit of connection, which is also beneficial for your health. Despite the many changes that fall brings upon us, there are also many opportunities to take care of ourselves and increase well-being.
